Born Yesterday December 1945
Images from the rehearsal of Born Yesterday, while Jean Arthur was still in the cast as Billie Dawn. Arthur was replaced just before the show opened by Judy Holliday, who was in turn made a star by the role. The show also starred Gary Merrill and Paul Douglas, and was directed by Garson Kanin.

The rehearsal for the Broadway hit comedy with dances by Jerome Robbins, Directed by George Abbott, and with music by Irving Berlin. The show starred Ethel Merman in the lead role of Ms. Sally Adams, the U.S. Ambassador to Lichtenburg, who upon her arrival immediately falls for Lichtenburger Cosmo Constantine. The show was later made into a film, also starring Ethel Merman.

John Henry December 30, 1939
Starring Paul Robeson in the title role at the Colonial Theatre in Boston. The show opened on Broadway 11 days later on January 10th, 1940 at the 44th Street Theatre. Despite its short run this was the show that marked the beginning of Eileen Darby's Theatre photography career, the images of which were her first published in the NY Times Photo Section in 1940 by photo editor Victor Talley.
