About Eileen Darby

Eileen Darby was the greatest photographer of the golden age of Broadway. Her photographs document hundreds of American theater classics from the early 1930's through 1965. "Annie Get Your Gun", "Oklahoma", "A Streetcar Named Desire", "Carousel", "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "Playboy of the Western World" are just a few examples.

Her candid photographic style brought warmth and humanity to the budding stars who would become legends. Her work has been seen in media worldwide including television, books, magazines and newspapers, as well as museums such as the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

To learn more about Eileen Darby and her groundbreaking theatrical photography we highly recommend Stars On Stage: Eileen Darby & Broadway's Golden Age by Mary C. Henderson, with an introduction by John Lahr. It is wonderfully written and contains exceptional reproductions of over 200 classic Eileen Darby images.
